DUETDUET vol. 13 features poems by Axel B. Kolcow and Sara Matson, right side up or upside down depending on how you hold them. These pieces move across parallel lives and synthetic rituals—planet-sized hearts, broken goblets, lovers who almost run away, plasticine stars, and other universes where we nearly get it right.
Kolkow’s poems ask what it means to exist multiply: to be “very, very large” somewhere else, to be a lake, a ghost, a pack of wild hounds, to love someone “in this universe and the next,” to remain “only a sad freak / some of the time.” Funny, aching—full of clones, freakshows, and devotion that refuses to disappear.
Matson’s Nostalgic Futurism scratches through heat, latex, ritual, and memory—teenagers glowing, masks tugging, identities squeezed “like a zit” to see what emerges. These poems admire obsolescence, worship weirdness, and repeat a necessary refrain: don’t fuck with me.
Together, these works feel like a mirror held at the wrong angle, a body caught in transition. DUETDUET vol. 13 asks how many selves we are, what we carry across worlds, and what it means to imagine otherwise—again and again.
