Ain’t Life Grand, edie roberts’ sixth solo chapbook, is a collection of poems offering us a slight deviation from the form and tonality of their previous work––while not sparing the pressing subject matter. ALG does not swim frantically, but rather soaks deeply in the dark, dank pond of our american anxiety state––a state full of dead cats and cold doctor’s hands. roberts’ macabre and exacting attention to the details of our current world leaves you with a strange but comforting sense of not being alone. there is no cotillion charge into the smog of gun smoke and gas emissions––just numbed limbs lifting themselves high enough for one final stand.
Edie Roberts is a gender mess blessed with excess anxiety and midwestern disposition. they currently live in Detroit, MI and dream of fully-automated leisure utopias and the end of scarcity. follow along at https://edieroberts.wordpress.com/
